Route 128 and Interstate 95 spans South Bedford Street. These bridges are unique in that they retain the design features of the original, pre-widening overpasses. When Route 128 was widened in the 1960s many overpasses were demolished to make way for wider replacements. This pair of overpasses spanning South Bedford Street was expanded, maintaining the profile of the original bridges which were kept in place.

Stylish, modern concrete bridge pier supporting Recreation Road over the old Route 128. Built in 1950, many of the overpasses spanning Route 128 were supported by concrete piers of a similar design until the early 1960s when they were removed to build the wider overpasses that stand today. This example still stands today only because this section of Route 128 was bypassed completely in the early 1960s.
